Code of conduct

“Discipline is the continual exercise of the will, enlightened by the intellect, so that it may act easily and habitually according to the right order and help to attain self-mastery”.

Make a conscious and deliberate effort to adhere to the following points

  • We will reach school on time, so we are prepared for the day
  • We will reach class or assemblies on time so that we can fully participate
  • We will submit all assignments on time, to develop the right work ethic
  • We will participate fully in all classes, events, and trips.
  • We will pay attention and always cooperate with our teachers
  • We will speak politely and respectfully with our teachers, peers, and others
  • We will behave with integrity and accountability
  • We will eat during the break time in designated areas only and will throw garbage in bins
  • We will walk mindfully in the corridor and on the stairs
  • We will switch off all the lights and fans when not in use, to save energy.
  • We will maintain cleanliness in the classroom and school as it is a sign of healthy living.
  • We will always be ready to lend a helping hand and accept whatever work is assigned to us graciously.
  • We will take good care of our ID cards and wear them each day to increase security and a sense of community
  • We must carry our almanack each day, as it is an essential document for communication.
  • We will enter or leave the classroom only with the teacher’s permission.
  • We will bring all necessary equipment to class, including books and stationery
  • We will be peacemakers, acting with self-control in all situations.
  • We will take good care of school property so that others can use it too.
  • We will speak truthful, kind words about others.
  • We will only bring materials to school that will help us study, and leave cell phones, personal music devices, and electronic toys at home.
  • We will leave our own sports equipment, including balls and skateboards, at home.
  • We will play with school sports equipment only on the playground or field after prior permission.
  • We will observe healthy habits on and off-campus, avoiding the consumption, possession, or distribution of controlled or any other illegal substances, as these are harmful to our physical and mental health.
  • We will treat each other with respect and care, avoiding spoken or written words or actions which cause emotional or physical injury, or which intimidate or humiliate.
  • We understand that this code will be reinforced across the school and that violation of any part of it will lead to consequences and sanctions.

Uniform and Dress code

  • All the students of all Grades must come to school in prescribed uniforms which should be clean and tidy.
  • Students must wear their ID cards and belts to school every day. If the ID card is lost, a new card must be purchased from the school office.
  • Appearance Students should clip their nails periodically, and cut and comb their hair.
  • Pupils should refrain from wearing jewels to school. The school will not be responsible for the loss.
  • Students are not to wear heavy makeup (e.g.: lipstick, nail polish, coloured hair tattoos, and hair colour) except when allowed for school performance.
  • Students can wear the colour dress only on their birthdays, or on days if instructed by the school.
  • General Rules & Regulations
  • All pupils should attend the class punctually in full uniform.  Lower Kindergarten pupils alone will be exempted from uniforms.
  • Only English should be spoken on the school premises.
  •  All are expected to be present before the warning bell for the assembly.
  • Pupils should assemble class-wise for the morning prayers.
  • While moving from class to class or the playground or anywhere, the pupil should march silently in order in the queue.
  • Pupils should never hesitate to say “No” when asked or tempted to do a thing, which they know to be wrong.
  •  Pupils should respect the liberty and rights of others.
  • Shouting or any other activity that would disturb the peaceful working of the institution is prohibited.
  • Pupils are expected to keep the classroom premises clean.
  • Pupils called for co-curricular and extracurricular activities should participate enthusiastically.
  • Parents are requested to sign the late attendance record, absence record, and note to the parents which are provided in the handbook.
  • Parents are expected to come for the open day after every monthly test and term examination.
  • Any change in the residential address or phone number should be intimated to the Class Teacher.
  • Pupils should produce leave letters when they go on leave.
  •  Children suffering from infectious diseases should take a rest at home on the advice of a physician.
  • Children are strictly prohibited from carrying toys, games, electronics goods, gold ornaments, or others of value to the school.
  • Pupils are forbidden from scribbling on the wall and furniture.
  • Damage done to the school furniture, library books, sports goods, etc must be paid.
  • If the students have failed to follow the discipline of the school, the principal is fully empowered to debar the student from the school.
  • Students must bring napkins/hand towels and two spoons for eating lunch at school.  Having lunch with the hand is strictly prohibited both for Day Boarding and home Boarders.

All of the above “Code of Conduct” is enforced by the disciplinary committee.

Disciplinary committee 

The Athena Global School Discipline Committee is constituted for the maintenance of discipline in the school. The committee will ensure that students obey rules and remain orderly and peaceful in under educational Objectives/goals in the school community.

The discipline of the school is one of the yardsticks to assess the school’s performance. Discipline helps in creating a conducive learning atmosphere. As such it is important to have a proper and systematic discipline policy in the school. The policy is also designed to promote fairness in taking disciplinary action.

Besides, the school discipline committee also ensures the safety and security of the students. It keeps a sharp vigil upon the safety & security of all the students inside the campus. Since we are running up to senior secondary classes, therefore the committee has decided to be more vigilant in each & every activity of students inside the campus as well as on Social Media

The Disciplinary Committee will investigate the following function under the guidance of the undersigned-

  • To serve as a model in terms of character training and behaviour for students.
  • To assist the students in conforming to school rules and regulations.
  • To help students develop self-discipline.
  • To administer consequences commensurate with the offence committed by any students.
  • To frame new school rules and regulations in consultation with the undersigned for the student’s behavioural aspect.
  • To promote and encourage good behaviour among the teachers and students.
  • To create an environment that is conducive to peaceful and harmonious co-existence of staff & students of different houses and grades.
  • To administer consequences commensurate with the offence committed by any parent on the school premises.

Frequency of Meeting: Third Saturday

Minutes of the meeting are to be maintained in the register and signed to be obtained from all the members in attendance

Conclusion

  • This subject area has a lot to look at and can have many different opinions and aspects of what many people may consider the right type of discipline.
  • All in all, we as educators and rising educators need to consider that our students and children need to have organisation & consistency in their lives.
  • Discipline gives consistency to our students and children.
  • This gives them structure for not only the classroom but for their everyday lives and their futures.
  • Discipline is a very effective way to make sure that the machine always runs in the right order.
  • Every decision taken by the Discipline Management Committee will be acceptable to all the children and teachers at the school.
